BYD’s Atto 8 electric SUV premiered at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, emphasizing rapid charging technology. The vehicle introduces Flash Charging, a system capable of charging its 115 kWh battery from 10% to 97% in nine minutes. In temperatures as low as -30 degrees Celsius, when charging power drops sharply, a 20% to 97% charge is achievable in 12 minutes, while a 0% to 70% top-up takes just five minutes.
The Atto 8 EV joins an existing plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model under the same name, which remains unchanged. Both versions share the same 115 kWh battery in their fully electric configurations. The rear-wheel-drive EV generates 462 horsepower and 365 Nm of torque, with a claimed 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 8 seconds and a WLTP range of 653 kilometers. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant produces 775 horsepower and 775 Nm, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and offering a WLTP range of 602 kilometers.
The PHEV version retains its 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine, paired with either a 19 kWh or 35.6 kWh battery. The smaller battery powers the front wheels, delivering 275 horsepower, while the larger battery setup adds all-wheel drive and 481 horsepower combined.
Externally, the EV and PHEV share identical styling, including matrix LED headlights, a LiDAR sensor mounted on the roof, and flared arches. The EV’s front grille is blanked off, and its rear features infinity knot LED tail-lamps with an illuminated BYD logo. Inside, the cabin mirrors the PHEV’s design, featuring a 10.25-inch driver’s display, a 15.6-inch touchscreen, and a three-spoke steering wheel with physical controls. The EV adds a 136-liter front storage compartment, which the PHEV lacks.
Seating is arranged for seven passengers in a 2+2+3 layout, with options for heated, ventilated, and massaging seats, a panoramic glass roof, and a front fridge capable of cooling to -6 degrees Celsius or warming to 50 degrees Celsius. The vehicle’s DiSound audio system includes 21 speakers, and two 50-watt wireless phone chargers are integrated.
Globally, the Atto 8 EV will face competition from models such as the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9.
