Aprilia launches SXR GT 175 maxi-scooter in India - aprilia sxr gt
The SXR GT 175 uses the same 174.7 cc engine as Aprilia’s SR 175 model.

Aprilia is reintroducing the maxi-scooter concept in India with the new SXR GT 175, which shares its 174.7 cc engine with the sportier SR 175. The GT promises to deliver the same performance in a larger, touring-friendly package that adds comfort, technology, and a more substantial road presence. The move marks Aprilia’s effort to capture the growing demand for higher-capacity scooters among Indian riders who want both power and practicality.

The SXR GT 175 has a broader front apron, generous proportions, and a more relaxed visual appeal, giving the impression that it is meant for long-distance travel. The signature tripod LED headlamp provides a distinctive face, while fresh colour options, race-inspired graphics, and a new footboard design add a touch of Italian flair that sets the model apart from its predecessors.

Design and Features

The biggest change in the SXR GT 175 is the use of 14-inch wheels at both ends, replacing the 12-inch setup used by earlier SXR models. This larger wheel size improves stability over uneven surfaces and gives the GT a more impressive look that many riders find appealing. In addition, the scooter features a five-inch full-colour TFT instrument display that presents information clearly, Bluetooth connectivity that allows pairing with smartphones, music and call management functions, and turn-by-turn navigation that helps riders find their way without stopping.

The updated exhaust end section, complete with integrated heat protection, adds a tidier finishing touch, while braking duties are handled by a 220 mm front disc with single-channel ABS and a rear drum brake that together provide reliable stopping power. The SXR GT 175 also offers a more spacious riding layout, with a generous seat, a broad footboard, and a more relaxed overall posture that enhances rider confidence on longer journeys.

Comfort-focused features include a five-position adjustable rear suspension designed to make everyday commuting less strenuous. Although the foot bay position is somewhat cramped, the seat cushioning, wind protection, and suspension behaviour over several hours will be important in determining the scooter’s long-distance comfort.

The Aprilia SXR GT 175 asks buyers to pay for its maxi-scooter styling, added technology and more comfort-oriented package. Prospective buyers should also consider dealer accessibility, scheduled maintenance costs, and spare-part availability, particularly if they live outside major urban centres where service networks may be less dense.

The Aprilia SXR GT 175’s combination of familiar performance, larger wheels, and modern equipment gives it a convincing starting point for riders seeking a touring-friendly machine. With its design and features aimed at comfort and practicality, the scooter is poised to appeal to those who value a balance of performance and ease of use. The 174.7 cc engine develops 13.3 PS and 14.14 Nm of torque, which is essentially identical to the output of the SR 175.

Road manners and Storage Practicality

The added bodywork and altered proportions change how the scooter moves through traffic and holds a steady speed on longer trips. Take-off feels confident, and the bike maintains a smooth pull from low to mid-range speeds. The engine offers a solid base, but judging fuel consumption will need more riding time than a brief test. Fuel figures will become clearer after several weeks of regular use.
