Hyundai Unveils New Bayon Mid Size SUV - hyundai bayon
Hyundai Bayon launch is scheduled for October 26.

Ahead of its October 26 launch, Hyundai has unveiled images of the Bayon, a new mid-size SUV. Pre-bookings are open at Rs 11,000, with an expected price range of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom). Positioned between the Venue and Creta, the Bayon expands Hyundai’s SUV lineup in this segment.

The Hyundai Bayon has a sharp, distinct boxy appeal, carrying forward the brand’s new “Art of Steel” design language. This design language aligns its visuals with some of its foreign brethren, such as the Tucson. The fascia features distinct H-styled LED DRL’s split into two halves, with the headlights slotting below in an otherwise chunky bumper.

Sharp wheel arches, petal-styled, dual-tone alloy wheels, and traditional pull-type doors adorn the side of the SUV. The thin-strip taillight design at the rear gives the Bayon a minimalistic yet sophisticated outlook. The connecting DRLs are absent on both ends, adding to the vehicle’s unique design.

The Hyundai Bayon features an AI-powered voice assistant that combines Perplexity’s intelligence and SoundHound AI’s voice AI technology. This allows the vehicle to understand conversational requests, such as planning travel itineraries, accessing real-time weather information, and suggesting hotels at a destination.

The brand-new cabin of the Bayon features a dual integrated curved display setup, including a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display. This setup is powered by NVIDIA’s Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC). The cabin also features a 4-spoke steering wheel with a ‘morse-code’ (four dots) Hyundai logo, similar to the one seen in other Hyundai models like the Ioniq 5.

The Hyundai Bayon will be offered with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which makes 115 PS and 144 Nm. This engine will be paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT gearbox. As of now, there is no official confirmation for turbo-petrol or diesel engine options for the Bayon SUV.

The Hyundai Bayon will compete with other compact SUVs in the market, including the Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Renault Duster, Nissan Tekton, and Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun. The prices of these competing vehicles range from Rs 10.49 lakh to Rs 21.82 lakh.
