More than 100 vehicles blocked Interstate 75 in Florida early Saturday morning, bringing all northbound traffic to a standstill while drivers performed burnouts on the highway. The coordinated shutdown of the major highway drew a rapid response from law enforcement, leading to a high-speed pursuit.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. near mile marker 266 in Thonotosassa.
Authorities reported that the group used the interstate as a staging area, stopping traffic completely to perform dangerous maneuvers in the middle of the roadway. Traffic cameras recorded the scene as all northbound lanes were occupied by the gathering before troopers arrived with lights and sirens activated.
The situation escalated quickly when patrol cars approached the scene. Spectators sprinted back to their vehicles while dozens of cars scattered in every direction to escape. Officers on the in-car radio noted that the livestream of the event ended abruptly as police arrived on the scene, suggesting the organizers were monitoring law enforcement channels.
Most participants managed to leave the area before officers could intervene, but the focus quickly shifted to a bright green BMW M3 that attempted a risky escape.
BMW Driver Hits 140 MPH During Police Pursuit
As other vehicles fled, the BMW accelerated rapidly heading north on I-75. Troopers stated the car weaved through traffic with its hazard lights flashing, an action that likely drew more attention to the driver rather than concealing the vehicle. Investigators determined that the BMW eventually reached approximately 140 mph in a 70 mph zone.

The pursuit continued as the driver exited the interstate onto Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. The car reportedly ran a red light at the intersection before coming to a stop in a nearby parking lot. Officers immediately apprehended the driver and three passengers inside the vehicle.
While the immediate chaos on the highway has subsided, the legal ramifications for those involved are likely just beginning.
Authorities often use high-definition traffic camera footage to identify participants long after the event concludes. Drivers who escaped the initial scene could still face citations or have their vehicles impounded if investigators can match their license plates to the video evidence. Arrests and Ongoing Investigation
The driver of the BMW was identified as 25-year-old Yulian Lugo. He was charged with aggravated fleeing to elude and participating in a coordinated street takeover. Three passengers inside the vehicle were also taken into custody. Police identified the group as a 24-year-old and two 18-year-olds.
Investigators determined the passengers were active participants in the event rather than bystanders. All four individuals were charged under Florida’s street takeover law and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail.
Traffic on the interstate was restored later that morning.
