GAC’s Yue 7 SUV arrives in China’s competitive off-road segment with a design that closely follows the Land Rover Defender and Lexus GX. Official images and specifications became public after months of regulatory submissions, showing a rugged, boxy vehicle equipped with a plug-in hybrid system.
A Defender-Inspired Exterior
The Yue 7 features an angular design described as octagonal, though the shape remains subtle. Its squared matrix headlights contain five LED segments each, and a grille with the GAC emblem reinforces the bold front end. Black plastic cladding on the lower body and thick side steps emphasize practicality, while multiple wheel and tire options will be available. Buyers can choose from three tailgate styles.
The SUV’s protective trim serves a functional purpose, shielding the paint from rough terrain. The sharp wheel arches and oversized mirrors further highlight its off-road focus, though the resemblance to the Defender is unmistakable.
A Cabin Built for Tech and Utility
Inside, the Yue 7 combines modern technology with retro elements. A 1.1-meter-wide head-up display stretches across the base of the windshield, similar to BMW’s latest models. The dashboard centers on a 15.6-inch touchscreen, surrounded by three digital gauges designed with a vintage look. Below the air vents, physical buttons and toggles—including auxiliary switches for aftermarket gear—echo classic off-roaders like the Jeep Wrangler.

Three interior color schemes will be offered: Sand Gold, Black, and Cloud White. A 50-watt wireless charger comes standard, along with a thick four-spoke steering wheel that enhances the utilitarian atmosphere.

While the Defender’s influence is evident, the Yue 7’s combination of technology and rugged features may help it find a place among buyers—if they overlook its borrowed appearance.
Powertrain and Range
Full powertrain details remain undisclosed, but a May leak revealed key components. The base model combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and either a 28.3 kWh or 45.9 kWh battery pack. The larger battery provides an electric range of up to 117 miles. Power output figures have not been shared, but the configuration prioritizes efficiency rather than high performance.
The plug-in hybrid system aligns with China’s push toward electrification, though its off-road capabilities may appeal more to rural drivers than city commuters. In a crowded SUV market, the Yue 7’s mix of retro styling and modern features could attract attention—despite its obvious design cues.
