The 2026 Tata Punch EV has received a subtle facelift, with Tata Motors focusing on improvements beneath the surface. While the exterior changes are minimal, the company has worked to enhance the vehicle’s overall appeal as an entry-level electric vehicle (EV).

Subtle Exterior Updates, Enhanced Practicality

The Punch EV’s exterior features a cleaner front fascia with a condensed grille and more compact lighting housings. The plastic trim is now a lighter grey shade, adding a contemporary touch. The side profile remains largely unchanged, with updated alloy wheels and new color options. Despite a larger battery pack, the vehicle maintains a ground clearance of 195 mm and a water wading capacity of 450 mm.

At the rear, a new full-width light cluster and additional grey cladding contribute to a modern aesthetic. The frunk, while similar to the previous model, offers limited space, primarily suitable for storing the portable charging cable. The 366-liter boot provides ample storage for strollers and soft bags, although the high lip and absence of a 60:40 split may pose minor inconveniences.

Familiar Interior, Improved Features

The interior of the Tata Punch EV retains its familiar layout, characterized by a chunky, tough design with rounded air vents and various materials. The off-white central band and textured panels add visual interest, although the hard plastic on the doors may be prone to scuffing. The 10.25-inch touchscreen, now more reliable, offers a crisp display and logical menus, along with wireless Android Auto connectivity.

Practicality is a strong suit, with a well-laid-out center console, secure wireless charger spot, and large cupholders. The 90-degree doors and flat floor enhance rear-seat accessibility, while the dense cushioning of the backrest ensures comfort on long journeys.

One notable improvement is the thigh support, which rivals that of the ICE Punch, thanks to an extended squab. The introduction of a Type C charger and improved cooling for both the battery pack and AC system further enhance the vehicle’s functionality.

The Punch EV’s real-world range is a key consideration. The 40 kWh battery pack offers an ARAI-certified range of 468 km, with Tata claiming up to 355 km in real-world conditions. During testing, the vehicle achieved an efficiency of 149 Wh per km, resulting in a range of 270 km.

The new powertrain delivers 130 PS and 154 Nm of torque for the larger battery option, with Tata emphasizing a wider range of peak torque and improved performance. The 0-100 km/h time has decreased by 0.5 seconds to 9 seconds.

Its compact size, decent visibility, and tight turning radius contribute to its urban practicality. The performance is adequate for city driving and remains strong at higher speeds, ensuring a peaceful long-distance driving experience. The ride quality is typical of Tata EVs, with a firm yet comfortable feel over broken surfaces.

While the Punch EV may not be a driver’s car, its low-set EV mass and small footprint provide good body control around corners. The steering could benefit from more feedback at the center. The vehicle’s pricing starts at Rs 12.59 lakh for the top-spec version, with a Battery as a Service (BaaS) option available to reduce upfront costs.

Interior Refinements and Practicality Enhancements

The Punch EV’s interior receives several practical upgrades. The rotary gear selector and paddles still exhibit a slight delay, and the car reverts to default regen settings upon restart. The climate control panel retains useful toggles, but touch controls require more effort. A small central armrest and spacious door bins add to the convenience.

Small changes contribute to a more modern feel, including a new bezel for the touchscreen and compact window switches. Leatherette upholstery with fabric inserts and ventilation enhances comfort. The indicator stalks, borrowed from the Sierra, work well.

A Type C charger is now included, though rear AC vents remain absent. These refinements collectively enhance the Punch EV’s practicality and comfort.
